If you have limited mobility that requires assistance with the skills during scuba training – or want to assist divers with disabilities -- the SSI Classified Diving program is an option that can open the unparalleled adventure of scuba and allow you to see the world beneath the waves. This globally-recognized certification program for amputee, paraplegic, quadriplegic, blind, etc… divers is the best way to begin your life-long adventure.
Personalized training is combined with in-water practice sessions – usually a Classified Diver and their Classified Buddy(s) is trained in parallel to ensure both have the skills and experience required to become truly comfortable underwater. However, solo individuals who wish to participate in the program are also welcome. Upon successful completion of the Classified Diver program, students will be certified as a Classified Diver/Buddy Level 1, 2, or 3, depending on their ability to independently perform or assist with skills and to assist a buddy in need. |

At your orientation we will discuss your individual needs and goals, and identify a course schedule. We'll also activate the course material, making it available for you to proceed with the academic portion of your training. You will need to read the digital material and pass the online review questions at the end of each section prior to your classroom sessions.
We invite you to visit one of our two store locations to be properly fitted by our professional staff for your personal gear. This will ensure the highest degree of comfort while ensuring we don’t exceed your budget or make you late for class. Rental gear is also available. |
Your instructor will put into practice the techniques you learned in the academics program. SSI’s training philosophy is “Comfort through repetition” so you’ll be practicing and perfecting your in-water skills under the supervision and guidance of our instructors and their professional assistants.
Each pool session will consist of reviewing any prior skills as well as the introduction of a few new skills, which build upon previous skills. Once you and your instructor feel confident in your abilities to demonstrate the necessary skills for scuba diving in the pool, you’re ready to move on to Phase II – Open Water Certification Dives. |
Phase I · Knowledge Development:
Theory work to help you understand the basic principles of scuba diving. This is reviewed in a final test in which you must score 80% or higher. Test can be retaken if needed. · Confined Water Dives: this is usually done in a pool or shallow water in the sea with the aim of teaching you basic scuba skills. Phase II · Open Water Dives: You will complete six open water dives to earn your certification. These dives will be conducted in a natural environment where you’ll demonstrate your mastery of the skills you learned in the class and perfected in the pool. |
